Journalism Resume...

Posted by JOHN MOSBY Wednesday, March 17, 2010 0 comments

After forays into school and college magazines, John's first newspaper film review appeared in the ILKLEY & OTLEY MAIL in 1989 and was a review of Tim Burton's Batman. John was already working within the sister newspaper's advertising department when the opportunity came to see the film and the published review began a fairly regular box-office column that would appear in a combination of ILKLEY & OTLEY MAIL, WHARFE VALLEY TIMES and PUDSEY TIMES for the next four years.

During this time John joined the GUILD OF REGIONAL FILM WRITERS and became a regular attendee at their thrice-yearly weekend events around the UK - so far particpating in over fifty of their sixty events to date. This led to more work and journalistic opportunities, both on a local, national and then international basis. Inbetween obtaining his Diploma in Journalism from Trinty & All Saints College, he began writing regularly for national genre magazine FANTAZIA - contributing such early articles as Mel Gibson's Macbeth and Highlander's first ill-fated sequel, became the film critic for BBC RADIO LEEDS and wrote freelance articles for top-selling regional evening newspaper the YORKSHIRE EVENING POST.

In the years that followed, he contributed several interview/features a month to SATELLITE TIMES and DREAMWATCH and began a regular monthly column for DREAMWATCH under the editorship of Paul Simpson. He wrote various articles for SFX, TOTAL FILM, FILM REVIEW and TV ZONE in the UK. Internationally he wrote articles for STARLOG and became UK Bureau Chief for SCI-FI UNIVERSE under the editorship of Mark A Altman.
In 1998 after several years of contributing features, John took over the assistant editor role at IMPACT Magazine and thereafter the full editorship (from Bey Logan who had moved on to be a mover and shaker with Hong Kong film industry), a position he continues to this date. During this tenure he has also continued to write for a number of publications including THE BIG ISSUE, PROFILE, COMIC WORLD, the YORKSHIRE POST and CRIMETIME.

In recent years he has also provided reviews and copy for event brochures and appeared on television in such productions as Sky 1's Top Ten Sci-Fi Films. Online he has written for TBMR, JANEDOEHORROR, ONE-DEGREE-EAST and TOTAL SCI-FI.
